Is the Word Humanity an Oxymoron?
A Dark Little Poem
As we all do now and again, I’m riding on the struggle bus, which is so full there are barely any seats! I try and avoid the news, but often I fail. Probably because I have a degree in Broadcast Journalism. I’m a news junkie.
But these days, news is meant to scare you, to make your worry and fear things that are benign. So for me, depressed with a major anxiety disorder, watching the news is like pumping angst directly into my veins.
Occasionally I will write my anxiety, not about it, just write it out of my head. The result can be something like this dark little poem.
depression is a liar government is a liar the supreme court is a liar any politician is a liar organized religion is a liar law enforcement is a liar the criminal justice system is a liar capitalism is a liar communism is a liar the media is a liar the patriarchy is a liar a colonizer is a liar supremacy is a liar I Am An Outlier nature tells no lies, her intentions made clear as she takes back what is hers by water, wind or the vacuum of a tornado a rose by any other name still smells sweet, even when the thorn pricks you a bee happily buzzes around for nectar for his hive, not to sell on the corner a bird sings it's song for all to hear, though some are only meant for their mate's ears a bear who breaks into your back porch fridge is only living its truth, it is a hungry bear and that fridge has a meal (true story) that rattlesnake that bites clearly told of their intention with the rhythmic rattle of their tail nature makes her intentions known in the form of catastrophic events around the world but no catastrophe is ever worse than the kind inflicted by man onto man genocide starvation famine hatred of the "other" disasters caused by corporate greed the word humanitarian no longer holds the same meaning. . . or did it ever?
I too have been having big, dark, brooding thoughts about these exact subjects (nature's systems vs. human behavior). Thank you for so eloquently putting them into creative prose and sharing them with the world. Keep it up! :)
