
once upon a time
there was a young girl who lived in a beautiful town
this town was full of artists and poets and authors and teachers and doctors and nurses and government workers this town was home to Black people and Latino people and Asian people and White people a stew of cultures and experiences there for all to enjoy and partake of to learn from and respect and learn they were more alike than different horses were known to cause the occasional traffic jam as were coyotes even a bear or two one day it just disappeared like a magician in a puff of smoke this was more than a puff more than a puff puff pass more than most minds could comprehend the girl became very sad still not believing what her eyes told her all while knowing this was not her town anymore one day the girl opened her lying eyes and saw reality her town was no more her country was not far behind quickly being sucked into a past filled with disrespect and despair a time before those who helped spark change Martin Luther King Malcolm X Betty Friedan Gloria Steinem Marsha P Johnson Bayard Rustin and so many nameless and faceless citizens the girl wondered when humanity took a turn and fell off a cliff into a quagmire of deception duped into the belief that “others” are bad and the promise that one day they would reign Supreme they did not realize that they too were the “others” merely pawns in a demented game of chess played by the obscenely wealthy the rule of law becoming nothing more than a movie title the girl became very sad the girl began to become angry the girl began to RESIST
